In Life Science the step from the petry dish towards a clinical application often includes animal experiments. For scientists this means that they have to be able to evaluate the necessity of animal studies for their research, to be aware of the responsibility towards the animals that become part of their studies, and to be able to take part in the animal experiment application and documentation. This course will provide you with an overview of an animal models used to understand the bone healing process, which is placed in the context of a thorough in vitro preparation and a possible follow up into the patient situation. The 3R principle is introduced for an animal experiment. You will get an insight into the statistical planning for an animal experimental study. We will conclude with a visit to the animal experimental facility at the Virchow Campus.
