New programme „KneeActive“ enhances quality of life and prevents progression of the disease
Knee arthrosis is becoming an increasing problem with regard to the continously aging population.
Already at the age of 40 almost every person shows alteration in the knee joint. The results are pain, limited mobility and impaired quality of life. With the new programme "DAK-KneeActive", the "DAK-Gesundheit" in collaboration with the Julius Wolff Insitute of the Charité want to help preventing the progression of the diseas at an ealy stage and thus improve the quality of life of the patients in Berlin.
Within the programme, the attending physician evaluates the necessity for the treatment and decides jointly withthe patient about the participation in the "KneeActive" programme. Firstly a comprehensive gait and movement analysis is carried out in order to exactly determine the impairment of the patient. A personalised consultation and training intervention programm will then be established on the basis of this medical record. The therapy takes place as a part-time inpatient treatment and will then be continued at home independently.
