After finishing his Masters at the University of Hannover in molecular genetics Thaqif El Khassawna joined the Julius Wolf Institute to study bone healing in neurofibromatosis type one animal model for his doctoral degree. Thaqif El-Khassawna belonged to the first generation of doctoral researchers at the Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies and he received his degree 2013. Afterwards, he joined the experimental trauma surgery at the faculty of medicine in Giessen University
